After a less than satisfying Olympic performance the Swedish team took revenge in the Alpine Team Event held on home snow in Åre! Team Sweden beat Team France in a dramatic Big Final with 3-1. More than 1500 spectators were on site when the competition began at 16 CET. The crowd was in good spirits already before the race, enjoying a lovely sunny Friday afternoon outside. And things soon got even better…

The Swedish team was not the least bothered not to have competed in the earlier events at the Finals. To the contrary, they were confident and ready to charge, beating the reigning Olympic team event champions Switzerland in the first round.

The crowd’s excitement grew visibly run after run and the atmosphere in the National Arena was phenomenal. The racers, happy to be back on home snow, responded with ever more outstanding performances. They left no doubt about the better team in the semi-final against Germany, advancing into the final against France. The Swedish team was again unbeatable in the final, reclaiming their position as one of the top 3 Alpine Team Event nations ahead of the home World Championships next year.

Racing continues Saturday with the men’s giant slalom and ladies’ slalom. Regardless of results, the atmosphere in the Arena is bound to be extraordinary. Five Swedes will start: André Myhrer, Matts Olsson, Frida Hansdotter, Anna Swenn-Larsson and Estelle Alphand. Now that the Swedes have warmed up with a win the only remaining question is how exceptional the FIS World Cup Finals 2018 can really become for Team Sweden…
