The end of the ski season has seen a successful drive to recruit volunteers for roles with the slope crew that require advanced skiing ability. However, volunteer registration remains open and applications are welcome to a myriad of different roles both in 2018 and 2019.
Sports events would not be possible without volunteers. Åre 2019 is no exception and in fact, more than 1600 volunteers are expected to help out in roles such as team hostesses, crowd marshals, slope slippers and many others during the event in February 2019.
Almost a third of the volunteers will already join the organizing committee for the test events scheduled during the 2017/18 season, the World Cup Stockholm City Event in January and the FIS World Cup Finals in March.
It comes as no surprise that the volunteer team headed by Karin Halvarsson has been busy attending the various end of season ski events to build interest and recruit volunteers for Åre 2019.
“We’ve attended the Skifuntastic in Sälen, the Skutsjutet here in Åre and the Skitinget in Gothenburg and I am really excited about the level of interest within the ski family in volunteering for Åre 2019. We’ve especially been looking for strong skiers for roles in our slope crew and that’s starting to shape up nicely,“ said Karin Halvarsson.
She added: “We also saw a real peak in registrations in our volunteer database right after the St Moritz 2017 World Champs; the international Voluntari in Switzerland had a blast and cannot wait to do it again in 2019 here in Åre.”
“We are still working to define the exact numbers and roles for the World Championships but will be able to confirm assignments for next season’s Finals after the summer. There will be many needs and we continue to welcome applications.”
