In the midst of it all, there is also a gathering of future ski stars in Åre during the FIS World Cup Finals 2018. They are ski racers under 16 years old representing Austria, Canada, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland and USA and they have come here to race for the title of the Longines Future Ski Champion 2018. Ski super star Mikaela Shiffrin is ambassador for the race and will also be on site Friday morning.

Longines Future Ski Champions is an international youth competition in ski racing. It takes place annually to provide a preview of the future for the younger generations. The Swedish representative is the winner of the previous year’s junior national championships. Girls and boys alternate annually and 2018 it is the boys’ turn to race for the honor of being the fastest U-16 racer.

The Swedish racer Anton Rösnäs from Sveg is a calm, laid-back youngster. He is competing all around Sweden and spends a lot of his time in Vemdalen. He is excited but not nervous, thinking it is fun to be allowed to participate. He’s set his sight on a top 3 finish.

– Goal is to finish on the podium but let’s see how it goes, said the young future hopeful.

The race starts with the first run on Friday 16 March at 10:30, with the second run following at 11:30. Anton will be wearing bib #6. The flower ceremony will follow immediately after the event with the prize ceremony being held at 15:30 just before the Alpine Team Event which begins at 16:00 CET.
